Reading is a historic market town in Berkshire, 40 miles west of London, it was an important trading and ecclesiastical centre in the medieval period. By 1525, it was the largest town in Berkshire.

The town suffered in the English Civil War, but the 18th century saw the beginning of a major iron works in the town and the growth of the brewing trade. In the 19th centruy, the town grew rapidly as a manufacturing centre.

Reading is a major commercial centre (with involvement in technology and insuranc), and a major regional retail centre. In 2018, the borough had 163,203 residents.

Major neighbourhoods include Early (a popular area with young families 20th-century or 1930s bay-fronted houses near lakesides), Caversham (a relatively wealthy suburb just out of town) and Woodley (Reading's large suburb with a lively leisure centre and town centre).

Investors might also consider Winnersh (country living with access to town) or course Reading Town Centre (mostly flats, popular with students, great access to London).
